Woof! In Urban Tulsa Weekly

Fire Hydrant Blues

by Holly Wall, Urban Tulsa Weekly

Opening this weekend... over at the Nightingale Theater, 1416 E. 4th St., is "Woof! The Roadshow," a two-man mini-musical starring St. Louis actors Zach Jett and Jerry Rabushka. The book lyrics and music are all written by Rabushka, co-founder of Ragged Blade Productions, a company that produces original theatre and some touring artists.

"A lot of guys remind me of a dog looking for a hydrant," Rabushka said, attempting to explain the show's title. "They're these dogs walking down the street and they see you and they love you, but then they get distracted by someone else and love someone else, and they just keep peeing on fire hydrant after fire hydrant."

"Woof!" got started, Rabushka said, when he was working on another two-man show called "Love of Last Resort," and he found himself falling for his co-star.

That's what "Woof!" is about -- Adam and Jon are touring actors playing in a gay romance, and Jon keeps trying to make the romance a real-life scenario. At the same time, writers keep workshopping the script -- rewriting it to the point no one has a clue what their lines are from day to day.

The vaudeville-style, episodic play should be hilarious to watch, whether you're gay or straight, says Rabushka. And, we should warn you, there is a little bit of audience participation.

"We're not going to make people stand up and dance," Rabushka said, "but we try to get them involved."

See "Woof! The Roadshow" this weekend, Mar. 2 and 3 at 8pm.
